Projects.

Answers to your questions about our climate projects.

5 questions

Why and how did you choose these projects?

When selecting projects, we refer to the opinion of climate experts. Our project mix was put together alongside experts who recommend these countries and ways of offsetting in order to achieve the greatest possible impact. In addition, we want to achieve eco-social progress through our projects besides 'just' offsetting CO₂. In our project countries Peru, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh and India this is exactly what we can achieve.

Why are no local projects included in the mix?

A ton of CO₂ offset in Europe has the same effect on the climate as, for example, an offset ton in Peru or India. CO₂ does not know any boundaries. Regardless of this, 1€ contributed to CO₂ offsetting can have much more impact abroad.

Are the projects certified?

Yes. Our projects in Peru are certified by VCS (with CCBA gold medals). BOKU Vienna certifies our project in Bangladesh. Our project in India is certified by the UN (UNFCCC). The well restoration project in Sierra Leone is certified by the Gold Standard.

How do you divide contributions among projects?

Your contribution is split roughly evenly between our projects (Water, Forest, Energy). Together they offset your emissions.

Can I choose which projects to support?

Currently there is no possibility to split your monthly contribution individually. The diversity of our project mix maximises ecological and eco-social impact.

Carbon footprint & compensation.

Answers about the carbon calculator, climate actions and contributions to certified projects.

7 questions

How can I calculate my carbon footprint?

Answer questions about your everyday life in the TeamClimate carbon calculator to receive an estimated total carbon footprint. You then see the monthly amount you could contribute to climate projects based on that estimate. The calculator was developed following the GHG Protocol; our whitepaper is available on request at hello@teamclimate.com.

Which climate actions can help me live more sustainably?

Walking, cycling or taking public transport more often, taking fewer short-haul flights, eating more plant-based meals and wasting less food are changes you can gradually make in everyday life. Repairing items and shopping more thoughtfully also help save resources. Choose changes that fit your circumstances.

What does carbon compensation mean at TeamClimate?

Carbon compensation means contributing to certified projects for forest protection, renewable energy and clean drinking water. Your contribution is based on your calculated carbon footprint or chosen plan. Reducing emissions comes first: your climate contribution complements your climate actions but does not make your own emissions disappear.

What are carbon credits, and is my contribution a donation?

Carbon credits represent emission reductions in climate projects. At TeamClimate, your compensation contribution is legally a purchase of emission reduction certificates from our projects, not a donation. The certificates are independently reviewed; they are not evidence that your own emissions disappear.

Why compensate — isn't reducing enough?

To limit the temperature rise to 1.5 °C, every person should emit no more than around 0.7 t CO₂/yr by 2100. Even with a vegan diet and no flying or driving, the average footprint is ~3.2 t — almost 5× too much. Reducing emissions comes first. Contributions to certified climate projects complement reductions but do not make your own emissions disappear.

How do you offset my exact emissions?

Your contribution is based on your emissions. We are committed to using your contribution directly for verified climate impact in certified climate projects. Certificates are independently reviewed.

Shouldn't companies reduce their emissions first?

Yes — and we work with companies that genuinely reduce. We turn down clients who don't fit our philosophy: calculate – reduce – compensate.

Subscriptions & organisation.

Answers about your monthly subscription and how TeamClimate works as a company.

9 questions

What if my footprint changes?

Recalculate in your profile any time — your contribution adjusts.

Is TeamClimate a charity?

No. Carbon compensation contributions are the purchase of emission reduction certificates from our projects.

Is my monthly contribution a donation?

No — legally it's a purchase of certificates, not a donation.

How is the contribution amount set?

Pre-assembled plans use average carbon footprints. If you calculate your own footprint, the monthly contribution is based on your estimated total emissions.

Where does my money go?

Your contribution funds your verifiable climate impact — from project monitoring to platform operations, fully audited.

Do I get a monthly invoice?

Yes — available in your profile under settings.

Can I pause my subscription?

Yes, any time in your profile under settings.

Which payment methods are accepted?

PayPal, direct debit, Apple Pay, Google Pay and credit card.

Is TeamClimate legitimate and trustworthy?

Yes — and we make that verifiable. Our projects in Peru, Bangladesh and India are independently certified (including VCS with CCBA gold medals, BOKU Vienna and UNFCCC), Deloitte Austria audits our finances and fund flows every year, and the results are published in the audit history below. For over 10 years, more than 3,000 members have contributed to certified climate projects with us — over 153,000 t of measurable CO₂ impact so far. Legally, your contribution is a purchase of emission reduction certificates, not a donation — and we openly say that reducing your own emissions comes first. Questions? Flights.

Answers about offsetting flights.

7 questions

What does it mean to offset flights?

Your contribution is based on your flight emissions and funds certified rainforest, wind energy and clean water projects. It does not reduce the emissions of the flight itself.

How are flight emissions calculated?

Using DEFRA data, including cabin class and altitude radiation factor.

Are flight offset projects certified?

Yes — UNFCCC, BOKU Vienna and CCBA Standard certifications.

How can I reduce my flight emissions?

Fly less, take direct flights, choose economy, and check whether your airline reduces fuel use.

Why is there a 6.50€ minimum?

A smaller amount would understate short-haul impact. We over-offset to make up for it.

Is my flight contribution a donation?

Legally it's a certificate purchase, not a donation.

Which payment methods are accepted?

PayPal, direct debit and credit card.

Biodiversity & Wild Impact Club.

Answers about the Wild Impact Club and biodiversity projects.

6 questions

What is the Wild Impact Club?

A movement for people who want to actively protect biodiversity and restore nature via verified biodiversity credits.

What is the project about?

Our first initiative supports Banco de Hábitat Bosque de Niebla — El Globo, a 340 ha cloud forest project in Támesis, Colombia, with legal protection for 30 years.

Why does this matter?

80% of biodiversity loss is caused by habitat destruction. You help protect species like the Spectacled Bear and Yellow-eared Parrot.

Why support biodiversity?

Biodiversity projects protect entire ecosystems and create economic opportunities through eco-tourism and sustainable industries.

How is the project structured?

A 30-year project in Támesis, Colombia covering 340.11 ha. Managed by Terrasos and registered with Colombia's Ministry of Environment.

How is it certified?

Registered with MADS, following Resolution 1051/2017 and the P4F Protocol for Voluntary Biodiversity Credits. Tracked via blockchain.
