Give a sustainable gift this Christmas!

By Lena

Did you know that around 300 tons of additional waste paper are produced in Vienna during the Christmas season? A large proportion of this comes from packaging and wrapping paper. This means that between the twinkling lights, presents and festive celebrations, not only is the mountain of presents unfortunately growing, but also the mountain of waste.

With a little creativity, you can wrap your gifts this year in a way that is kind to the environment and will be remembered by your loved ones. In this blog post, we'll show you how simple and stylish sustainable packaging can be.

Why switch to sustainable gift packaging?

Conventional wrapping paper may look pretty, but it is often coated, contains plastic or glitter and therefore cannot be recycled. Sustainable alternatives not only save resources, but also show that you have put some thought into them - a sign of genuine appreciation.

Our best tips for sustainable packaging

Furoshiki: fabric instead of paper. Wrap your gifts with scarves, shawls or scraps of fabric. The Japanese art of folding turns the wrapping itself into a gift.

Newspaper with style. Old newspapers or magazines can be turned into unique packaging with a pretty ribbon and small accessories such as natural materials.

Upcycling: old maps or comics. These papers give your gifts a vintage charm and are guaranteed to catch the eye.

Natural materials as decoration. Add sprigs of rosemary, dried orange slices or pine cones to the packaging. This gives a natural look and spreads the scent of Christmas.

Reusable gift boxes. Beautiful boxes, jars or tins can form part of the gift and be reused later.

TeamClimate's creative contribution

The TeamClimate team was also inspired and wrapped gifts for colleagues in newspaper this year. They were decorated with a fragrant rosemary wreath. This turns simple paper into elegant packaging that is also functional. Once unwrapped, the wreath can be used as decoration or in the kitchen.
