A dense cloud forest in the mountains of Colombia
Over the last year, we have carefully chosen the first project of the Wild Impact Club! In our research we wanted to pick a place we deeply trust with integrity, scientific methods of restoration and support for local communities.
And we got lucky: Deep in the cloud forests of Támesis, Colombia you can find the nature reserve "The Banco de Hábitat Bosque de Niebla - El Globo". It is a 30-year conservation project that covers 340 hectares. It is managed by Terrasos and is registered with the Colombian Ministry of the Environment. In this lush forest you will find 34 different species of mammals, more than 130 different bird species and countless unique plants. A great place to start protecting endangered species!
But what makes this reserve so special? It is its combination of preservation and restoration: The El Globo property was a traditional cattle ranch exploited since the 1960s. There was intense logging and the landscape was transformed into pastures. In 2017 this land and the surrounding, untouched forests were turned into a conservation project. About 40 hectares of the reserve are dedicated to regenerate those damaged areas. The other 300 hectares are protecting the untouched forest areas around the property. That's why we think it's the perfect combination of protection, enhancement and restoration to provide real impact on biodiversity. And we think it's the perfect starter for the Wild Impact Club!
Why Biodiversity matters
But why should your money go all the way to Colombia? Because the biodiversity crisis knows no borders. It is a global and local issue. While regional efforts matter, ecosystems worldwide face intense threats from deforestation, extinction, pollution, and climate stress.
Each year, tens of thousands of species and millions of hectares of forest are lost, especially in biodiversity hotspots like Colombia's cloud forests. To counter this, we need strong conservation and credible renaturation. When done right, reforestation can restore damaged ecosystems and studies show these forests are among the most effective for impactful reforestation.
Projects like El Globo are vital not just for protecting species and nature, but also for regulating water, purifying air, storing carbon, and supporting climate resilience. They offer long-term restoration, not short-term fixes. In this high-impact zone, even small efforts create meaningful changes for nature, local communities, and the planet.
